DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Bangladesh and Bhutan strengthened their strategic partnership on Saturday, signing two crucial Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Dhaka. The agreements focus on enhancing health cooperation and boosting internet connectivity between the two nations.

The signing ceremony took place following a productive bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and the visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay. Prime Minister Tobgay arrived in Dhaka for a two-day state visit. Earlier in the day, he paid his respects at the National Martyrs’ Memorial.
Details of the MoUs
The two agreements aim to support essential services in both countries:
Health Cooperation: The first MoU, titled “Appointment of Health Workforce,” formalized cooperation in the health sector. Md Saidur Rahman, Secretary of Bangladesh’s Health Services Division, signed the document for Bangladesh. The agreement will facilitate the sharing and deployment of healthcare professionals between the nations.
Digital Connectivity: The second MoU centered on the “Trade of International Internet Bandwidth and Telecommunication Services.” This agreement aims to improve digital infrastructure. Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of Bangladesh’s Posts & Telecommunications Division, signed the document, paving the way for improved, reliable internet links between Bangladesh and Bhutan.
These signings underscore the deepening diplomatic and economic ties between the two South Asian neighbors.
