Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain on Sunday (December 21) categorically rejected the statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the recent demonstration in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. He described Delhi’s explanation of the incident as “unacceptable” and “oversimplified.”
Addressing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Adviser questioned how a group of protesters could reach such a high-security diplomatic zone. “The way the incident has been presented by Delhi is not acceptable to us. The mission is located in a highly sensitive area. It is difficult to believe that protesters could reach the gate without some form of allowed access,” he said.
He further mentioned reports of threats made against the Bangladeshi High Commissioner during the incident, adding that such security lapses are concerning. The Adviser’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic tensions following the death of an activist in Bangladesh and subsequent protests in India.
