One killed after private car falls off elevated expressway

A shocking accident occurred in Chattogram (Chittagong) today after a speeding car plunged off the city’s elevated expressway. The vehicle crashed onto the road below, instantly killing a pedestrian and seriously injuring four other people.

The tragic event unfolded around 4:25 PM near the Nimtala intersection and Bandar Police Station.

Details of the Accident
The Cause: Eyewitnesses report that the Toyota Harrier SUV was racing at high speed across the Shahid Wasim Akram Flyover. Consequently, the driver lost control near the Nimtala point.

The Impact: The car smashed through the expressway railing and fell to the road below. The impact killed a pedestrian, Md Shafiq (55), who was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead.

Victims: Four other people, including a young woman who was inside the car, suffered critical injuries. Rescue crews pulled the injured victims from the wreckage. They were immediately taken to Islami Bank Hospital in Agrabad.

Investigation: Authorities are investigating the cause of the deadly loss of control. However, early reports strongly suggest reckless driving was the main factor.

The accident caused a large crowd to gather, leading to heavy traffic congestion. Police quickly cleared the road and restored vehicle movement. This incident raises serious concerns about speed control and safety measures on Bangladesh’s elevated roads.
