Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies have threatened an indefinite sit-in in front of the chief adviser’s residence, Jamuna, from 16 November if their five-point demand, including the implementation of the July Charter, is not addressed.

The parties will first gather on 13 November to press their demands.

“On Friday, 13 November, we will stage a demonstration to press for the implementation of the July Charter. If our demands are ignored, further actions will follow,” a spokesperson said at a press conference on 11 November.

To avert possible violence, Jamaat and its eight allied parties will remain active in the field tomorrow.

A meeting of top party leaders is scheduled for 16 November to decide the next course of action.

Starting 16 November, party activists will stage an indefinite sit-in in front of Jamuna. Jamaat warned that the protest will continue until their demands are met.

“No compromise will be made if our demands are not addressed,” the spokesperson added.

Jamaat-e-Islami and its seven allied Islamist parties, including Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Islami Andolon Bangladesh, held a rally at Paltan in Dhaka today (11 November), pressing their five-point demand, which includes holding a referendum on the July Charter before the national election.

Other demands are – issuing an order to implement the July Charter; adopting proportional representation in the next parliamentary system; ensuring equitable and credible elections; and taking visible action on accountability related to past political repression, killings, and corruption.
