DUCSU VP candidate Jalal sued for attempt to murder, expelled

Independent Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president candidate Jalal Ahmed has been expelled from his residence hall on charges of assaulting his roommate.

An attempted murder case was filed against him for attacking the roommate at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall early Wednesday.The hall provost Md Sirajul Islam filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in the morning.

The attack incident has risen questions about his participation in the upcoming student union polls.

According to the case statement, Jalal attacked Md Rabiul Haque, a Political Science student of the 2018–19 session, around 12:45AM in room No. 462 of the dormitory.

Rabiul was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Jalal at first struck Rabiul with a chair on the head, leaving him injured. Later, Jalal picked up an old tube light from the room and attempted to hit Rabiul on the head again. But the tube light struck his chest.

Speaking from DMCH, Rabiul told reporters that Jalal had struck him with a tube light, causing deep cuts to his chest.

Rabiul told Jalal he had to go to the library in the morning and requested that he not make any noise as it was disturbing his sleep.

Jalal was eventually handed over to the police around 4AM.
