No Rush for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s India Visit: Dinesh Trivedi

There is no immediate rush for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India, as discussions regarding the trip are progressing positively, according to Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi. He noted that the visit and a formal meeting between the two heads of government will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.

The Indian High Commissioner made these remarks to reporters on Tuesday morning following a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Trivedi also congratulated Kabir on assuming his new role as the State Minister.

During the nearly one-hour meeting, both officials discussed various matters of mutual interest between Bangladesh and India. Describing the meeting as fruitful, Trivedi mentioned that he shares a personal relationship with Kabir and noted that no specific agenda was discussed in deep detail.

When asked about the prospective visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, Trivedi emphasized that adequate time must be allowed for preparation. He reaffirmed that the invitation for the Prime Minister to visit India remains open, adding that the tour will take place whenever both leaders deem it appropriate.

Meanwhile, a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting reiterated Bangladesh’s firm commitment to working with India on the foundation of a forward-looking vision and mutual respect.
