DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Dhaka University (DU) authorities have suspended all internal classes and examinations scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, November 23). The decision follows a series of recent earthquakes that have caused injuries and widespread panic among the campus community.

The university administration made the emergency decision late Saturday night. The suspension ensures the safety and mental well-being of students, teachers, and staff.
Reason for Emergency Closure
The decision comes after the region experienced three significant tremors in less than 48 hours, including the Magnitude 4.3 quake that occurred on Saturday evening.
Injury and Fear: The university noted that some students sustained injuries in the rush to evacuate buildings during the tremors. A pervasive sense of fear remains among the student body, especially those residing in the older residential halls.
Structural Concerns: The stronger M5.5 quake on Friday caused cracks in multiple halls and academic buildings. This damage and the subsequent tremors have heightened concerns over structural integrity.
Next Steps for Students
The university’s priority remains student safety.
Rescheduling Exams: The university will announce a revised schedule for all postponed examinations at a later date.
Safety Review: Authorities are urging students to remain calm. Meanwhile, they are working to assess the situation. The university is also beginning to inspect high-risk buildings and older halls as a precautionary measure.
Students and faculty are advised to follow official university notices for updates regarding the resumption of academic activities.
