Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin announced that from November, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will add five new products, including tea and salt, to its ongoing low-cost sales program.

This move aims to provide further relief to low-income families and help control inflation.

The government has allocated around Tk5,000 crore in subsidies to support TCB’s operations, stabilizing market demand and supply.

The adviser emphasized the importance of proactively selecting one crore eligible beneficiaries to ensure no poor person is left out of the social safety net.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman noted that identifying the right beneficiaries remains the main challenge.

Currently, over 6 million beneficiary cards are active, with around 339,454 pending activation. Officials from Dhaka and nearby regions are working to improve beneficiary selection and card activation nationwide.
