Youth gets death sentence for rape in Cox’s Bazar

A court has sentenced a young man to death for rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

Judge Mohammad Osman Gani of Cox’s Bazar Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-2 announced the verdict at around 11:30 am on Tuesday (August 26).

The convicted accused Md. Soleman, a resident of Chakmarkul area of ​​​​Hwaikyong union of Teknaf, was present in the court when the verdict was announced.

The plaintiff of the case and the victim’s father said that his daughter was a first-grade student of Dakshin Sairardale Government Primary School in Matarbari, Maheshkhali. She was abducted on November 30, 2022, while playing after returning from school. She was later raped, murdered and her body was disappeared. Her body was recovered from Karyardia area of ​​neighboring Pekua upazila.

Later, the child’s father filed the case with Maheshkhali Police Station on December 3, 2022. The verdict was announced today after a long judicial process.
