Prof. Yunus: July Memorial Museum to Mark Beginning of New Bangladesh

Online Desk : Former Chief Adviser to the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus today described the July Memorial Museum as more than just a building, saying it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s history.

“The path of a new Bangladesh will begin from here. If we ever lose our way, we will return here and start again,” he said while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the July Memorial Museum in the capital this morning.

Prof Yunus said the museum would serve as the centre of the nation’s collective history and a source of inspiration for future generations.

“If we lose our direction in the years ahead, the journey towards a new Bangladesh will once again begin from this place,” he said.

Calling on the country’s youth, Prof Yunus urged them to become the custodians of the memories of the July Mass Uprising and to take the lead in building a new Bangladesh.

At the end of the programme, he encouraged everyone to visit the July Memorial Museum every year.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information and Cultural Affairs Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, among others, attended the event.

Earlier, the prime minister formally inaugurated the museum at Ganabhaban. The museum has been established to preserve the authentic history of the July Mass Uprising, document the nation’s resistance against autocracy, pass that legacy on to future generations, and honour the sacrifices of the martyrs and the July fighters.
