Sports Desk : Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has returned home from Australia after undergoing medical assessments and has been advised to take at least one week’s rest before beginning rehabilitation for a Grade 2 side strain.
Rana, who suffered the injury on July 17, has already been ruled out of Bangladesh’s upcoming two-Test series in Australia. During his visit, he also underwent scans for a shin bone concern, which doctors found to be in good condition.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical department source said the pacer would undergo another assessment after a week before entering the main phase of rehabilitation, with his overall recovery expected to take around eight weeks from the date of injury.
According to the source, the initial stage of recovery focuses on allowing the torn tissue to heal naturally, followed by physiotherapy, manual therapy and strength-building exercises. Rana will then gradually resume bowling before progressing to full-intensity training.
The BCB medical team will monitor his recovery at every stage and will only clear him for competitive cricket after he successfully completes the required bowling workload.
Rana’s childhood bowling coach, Alamgir Kabir, expressed confidence that the 22-year-old would recover well if he follows his rehabilitation programme properly.
Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery. He resumed bowling workload on July 29 after completing the initial stages of rehabilitation and is scheduled to undergo a fitness test on August 12.
The selectors will decide his availability for the second Test against Australia, which begins on August 22.
Before leaving for Australia on Sunday, chief selector Habibul Bashar said Shoriful’s recovery was progressing well, although pacers require additional workload management before returning to competitive action. He expressed hope that the left-arm seamer would be available for the second Test.
