The maximum penalty for violating this code is six months imprisonment, a fine of Tk 150,000, or both.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has repeatedly emphasized that the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media presents a significant challenge ahead of the upcoming national election.

“Through AI misuse, content can be created using my exact image and voice. This kind of abuse has become a major issue for us in this election, and we are working to address it,”he said at an event in Khulna on July 26.

He explained that AI has the potential to generate a large volume of misinformation and disinformation, which can severely disrupt election campaigns.

This modern digital threat, he noted, is more dangerous than weapons.

In his latest statement on September 28, the CEC reaffirmed that the Election Commission is actively combating the misuse of AI, misinformation, and disinformation on social media ahead of the national election.“We have been working seriously on this matter for a long time.

InshaAllah, we will establish a central communication cell. We fully understand the consequences of social media and AI abuse,” he said.

Senior election officials at a conference at Nirbachan Bhaban on September 27 also highlighted the importance of combating AI and social media abuse to ensure a peaceful electoral environment.
