Joint Forces Special Operation Intensified Ahead of Bangladesh Election & Referendum

In a bid to ensure a peaceful environment for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the upcoming national referendum, the Election Commission (EC) has directed the joint forces to intensify their special operations across the country.

Following a high-level meeting with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force today (December 21), Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah announced that the joint forces will focus on recovering illegal arms, apprehending terrorists, and preventing any form of sabotage.

“The primary goal of these operations is to build confidence among voters and candidates,” the EC stated. To curb “hit-and-run” attacks and organized crime, district-level coordination cells have been activated, and area-specific checkpoints are being established. The Commission further noted that approximately 2,000 arrests are being made daily as part of ongoing security measures to maintain stability before the polls scheduled for February 12.
