Police fire water cannon at MPO-listed teachers near Press Club

Police fired water cannon and lobbed sound grenades at protesting MPO-listed teachers to disperse them from in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, a section of the teachers, including protest organisers, went to the Central Shaheed Minar to continue their peaceful movement demanding 20% house rent allowance, among others.

However, another group maintained their presence near the Press Club, despite requests from the protest leaders to move towards Shaheed Minar.

They even threatened to march towards the Secretariat to press home their demands.

Around 1:50pm, police deployed force to disperse the protesters.
