Section 144 Imposed in Khagrachari Over Schoolgirl Rape Protest

Section 144 has been imposed indefinitely in Khagrachhari to prevent unrest during a dawn-to-dusk road blockade announced by Jumma Chhatra-Janata. The blockade protests the gang rape of a schoolgirl in Singinala and demands the arrest of all involved.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khondker issued the order on Saturday afternoon, citing risks to law and order, life, and property. The blockade has paralyzed the district, with thousands of tourists stranded in Sajek. Protesters have set fire to tires and blocked roads with fallen trees.

The gang rape occurred on the night of September 23 when a girl was attacked after leaving a private tuition center. She was found unconscious in a field and rescued by family members. A 19-year-old, Shoyon Shil, has been detained for his alleged involvement.
