The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has dismissed a photo circulating on social media that falsely claims Bangladesh’s delegation remained seated in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) hall during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech.
The photo allegedly shows Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and six political representatives seated while leaders from many countries walked out to protest Israel’s assault on Gaza.
In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, the press wing clarified that the claim is completely untrue.
The photo was taken shortly before Dr. Yunus delivered his own speech at the 80th UNGA session and was originally shared on the official account of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser with a caption describing him waiting to speak.
The statement emphasized that as soon as Netanyahu took the stage, numerous diplomats from the United States and other countries walked out in protest, and Bangladesh’s delegation also left the chamber at that time.
Therefore, they were not present during Netanyahu’s speech. This is confirmed by photos from AFP and several international news agencies showing Bangladesh’s seat empty during the speech.
The press wing concluded that social media posts misused the photo to wrongly claim Bangladesh did not walk out in protest.
Verified evidence proves that Bangladesh’s delegation was not in the chamber while Netanyahu spoke.
The false use of the image to spread misinformation has been strongly rejected by the Chief Adviser’s office.
This clarification reinforces Bangladesh’s stance of protest against Israeli aggression and genocide in Gaza and confirms its delegation’s solidarity with the global demonstration during the UN session.
